Ultimate HECOstix
Overview: "Ultimate HECOStix" fuses the dynamic team play of Ultimate Frisbee with the hand-eye coordination and agility training of HECOStix. The objective is to catch a HECOStix in the opposing team's end zone, while correctly identifying the called color, making the game a true test of physical and cognitive skills.
Game Setup: Ultimate HECOStix is played on a small rectangular field or court with two end zones. The game can be played indoors or outdoors, with teams of 5-7 players each.
Field: 20 yards x 30 yards
Basketball Court/Tennis Court: Use half the court and set up cones designating each end zone limits
Rules:
-
Starting Play: The game begins with a "throw-off", similar to the "pull" in Ultimate Frisbee. One team throws the HECOStix to the opposing team.
-
Advancing the HECOStix: Players pass the HECOStix among their team by tossing it to each other. The player who has the HECOStix cannot run; they must pass it to advance down the field.
-
Color Call-Out: When tossing the HECOStix to a teammate, the thrower calls out one of the colors on the HECOStix. The receiver must catch the HECOStix correctly corresponding to the called color (e.g., if "blue" was called, the receiver must catch the HECOStix on the blue end). If the receiver fails to catch the correct color or drops the HECOStix, possession changes to the other team.
-
Scoring: A point is scored when a player catches the HECOStix, with the correctly called color, in the opposing team's end zone.
-
Interceptions & Possession: If a pass is intercepted or if the HECOStix hits the ground, possession switches to the other team.
-
The game is played to a predetermined number of points, typically 11 or 21, with the requirement that the winning team must win by at least 2 points.
Ultimate HECOStix combines agility, strategic thinking, and teamwork with an added element of cognitive skill. It's a great way for athletes of all ages and experience levels to improve their hand-eye coordination, while enjoying a fun and competitive game.
